Music: Harmony, Expression, and Growth
Education is more than instruction—it's orientation. At Meridian Charter School, we help students develop the clarity and confidence to navigate an increasingly complex world. Our music program provides opportunities for students in grades 6-12 to develop musical skills, explore creative expression, build confidence through performance, and experience the joy and discipline of making music together.
Program Offerings
Our approach combines intellectual rigor with context and reflection. Students don't just absorb information—they learn to question it, connect it, and apply it to the challenges that matter to them and their communities. Music education develops discipline, creativity, collaboration, and aesthetic appreciation while providing outlets for expression and connection.

Performance Opportunities
Students perform at fall and winter concerts featuring all ensembles, spring musical theater productions incorporating vocal and instrumental music, student recitals showcasing individual musicians, community events and partnerships, and competitions and festivals including state and regional events.
Performance experiences build confidence, develop stage presence, teach preparation and discipline, and create shared memories and school traditions. Our event calendar lists upcoming performances open to families and the public.
Facilities and Resources
Our music facilities include a dedicated band/orchestra room with acoustic treatment, a choral room with tiered risers, practice rooms for individual and small group work, and a music technology lab with recording and production equipment. Instrument storage and a lending library ensure students have access to quality instruments regardless of family resources.
Financial assistance is available for instrument rentals, private lessons, concert attire, and competition fees, ensuring cost doesn't prevent participation. Our campus provides excellent spaces for musical learning and performance.
Integration with Academic Program
Music connects to broader learning through mathematics and patterns in rhythm and harmony, physics and acoustics of sound production, history and cultural context of musical traditions, language arts through song lyrics and musical storytelling, and technology through recording and production.
Our educational approach recognizes that music develops critical thinking, creativity, discipline, and collaboration—competencies valuable across all domains. Students in our middle and upper school programs can pursue music deeply while maintaining strong academics.
Beyond Performance
While performance is important, our program emphasizes musical growth, appreciation, and lifelong engagement with music. Students develop listening skills, music theory understanding, historical and cultural knowledge, and personal expression through music. Many students continue music in college or as lifelong amateurs even if not pursuing professional careers.
